Robyn Squires

Robyn Squires is the founder and creative director of Sqrypt Atelier and RYSQ Design Collective, a practice oriented at the intersection of art, design, architecture, and wellbeing. With a design background and a career dedicated to building contexts for creative expression, Squires shifted from constructing commissions to developing her own sculptural frameworks—spaces where other artists can contribute their own “content.” This shift was catalyzed by a simple but powerful mindset change: “actions speak louder than words,” prompting her to bring the BOX 18 project to life—even on a shoestring budget—rather than waiting for funding or opportunity to come to her.

Installed as part of the Context Brings Content immersive sculpture-garden experience at the Inn Way Art-Co-op in Ellenville during the July 17–21, 2025 Upstate Art Weekend, BOX 18 is a modular, multi-sensory sculpture comprising 8′-wide wooden boxes stacked outdoors—creating a 60-foot composition standing 18 feet high—and scaled to 50 percent size for an indoor workshop setting. The installation blends materiality (wood, concrete, textile, resin) with light and sound, inviting visitors to slow down, breathe, meditate, and build memories through sensory engagement. Central to Squires’s vision, local artists were invited to contribute “content” inside the boxes, creating a collaborative, evolving artwork steeped in legacy and community energy.
